While it is relentlessly steep, Signal Peak has at least three things to recommend it:
- At 2.3 miles one way, it is relatively short
- Abundant switchbacks make the climb less arduous
- The trail is well-shaded at over 7000′, so it’s an excellent warm weather hike
And one more thing: the views from the top are stupendous! If you are very lucky, you might get invited for a tour, but always ask for permission before climbing the tower.

Directions: From downtown Silver City, take 180 east for about 1.5 miles. Turn left on NM 15. Follow NM 15 for 14.4 miles and park on the left. The trail is across the road on the east side of NM 15.
